Coagulation factors and thrombin are not the same drug. They differ in composition, mechanism of action and scope of application, as follows:

Composition and properties

Mechanism of action

Thrombin: directly acts on fibrinogen, cutting it into fibrin monomers, which then cross-link to form a stable fibrin network, causing blood to coagulate. At the same time, thrombin can also activate platelets, promote platelet aggregation, and further strengthen the coagulation process.

Scope of application
Coagulation factors: mainly used to treat bleeding diseases caused by coagulation factor deficiency, such as hemophilia A (coagulation factor VIII deficiency), hemophilia B (coagulation factor IX deficiency), and coagulation factor II, VII, IX, and X deficiency caused by vitamin K deficiency.
Thrombin: often used for local hemostasis, such as bleeding from surgical wounds and traumatic wounds, and can also be used for gastrointestinal bleeding, such as oral or local infusion to treat bleeding from gastric and duodenal ulcers.
